The average connection speed metric represents an average of all of the measured connection speeds from all of the unique IP addresses observed in a given geography. Over the last three years, the average connection speed in Costa Rica, as measured by Akamai, has tripled, growing from 0.7 Mbps in the third quarter of 2009 to 2.1 Mbps in the third quarter of 2012, placing it just above the 2 Mbps target minimum download speed. Additionally, 42% of connections to Akamai from Costa Rica were at speeds of 2 Mbps or above during the third quarter.
